Rosemary's artistic journey is truly remarkable and diverse, showcasing her creativity and adaptability across various mediums and forms of art. Her career began as a women's apparel designer in New York's Garment District in 1987, but she later ventured into custom apparel and evening wear. Notably, her creations were worn by the popular jazz singer Cassandra Wilson, gaining her recognition and press.
Over the years, Rosemary made a significant shift into footwear and started her own online custom wedding sandal company. Her ability to blend art with functionality and her talent for hand-painting shoes led her to success, attracting clients from various parts of the world. Her passion for nature and the environment also influenced her work, as she created hand-painted shoes depicting nature's beauty, often commissioned by customers.
Apart from fashion-related ventures, Rosemary explored other artistic influences ranging from food to cocktails. She designed unique and artistic pieces, like the Caviar coat and the Martini Mules, which received press coverage and accolades.
Rosemary's versatility is evident in her work with different mediums. She employs acrylics, fabric, cork, shoe dye, pencils, colored pencils, glitter dust, stucco paint, and other materials to bring her artistic visions to life. Lately, she has been focused on the technique of decoupage, using it to reinvent objects like a molded plastic desk chair and old wooden shutters found on the streets of her neighborhood.
Her creativity extends to interior design as well, where she has staged apartments in Manhattan, showcasing her resourcefulness and ability to transform spaces using repurposed items.
Rosemary's artistic endeavors have garnered attention and recognition with her American Vogue Quilt painting, receiving awards and featured in multiple art exhibits.
Her continued engagement with her followers on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram shows her commitment to sharing her artistic journey and receiving feedback and appreciation for her work.
Overall, Rosemary's artistic journey reflects a deep passion for creativity, exploration of different mediums, and an ability to breathe new life into various objects and spaces. Her work continues to evolve, guided by a sense of "anointing" with each new artistic endeavor.
The history of my artistic/creative work is best characterized as a variety with recurring themes such as hope, joy, and beauty. My motivation is often breathing new life into things that are considered ugly, cheap, or trash. I feel anointed to do a certain thing for a time, like the period when I was painting on silk bridal shoes (the last pairs, ones soiled from being in a window display) for the Peter Fox Shoes company. This upcycle created a new profit margin for the company because non-brides would purchase the wedding shoes and commission my artwork. Later, I wondered whether I could ever execute paintings like this again! Over the past couple of years, I have been using the technique of decoupage. So much of my work begins by utilizing a technique or building something I have never done before. The reason it feels like an “anointing” is based on how well it goes right from the start, as if I've had these skills all along. Although I do have a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, in many ways I feel self-taught. There is no explanation of how or where this ability comes from, if not from Spirit. I love experimentation and being brave. In the past, when I’d accept commission work for either shoes or clothing, the best part was having the client’s trust. I have grown to expect full creative control, as early as during my college years. This kind of freedom allows my best work to emerge.
